As you may have already guessed from the name, this venture is largely a toddler tracker which can come up with the precise GPS vicinity through an SMS for your phone whilst required.
This mission makes use of the Mediatek Linkit ONE as a base for conversation between your cellphone and the tracker and to get the GPS vicinity. As linkit one has in-built GSM and GPS capabilities, you do not need to connect any external shield or modules which makes it a perfect weekend challenge to be finished within an hour. You just want a SIM card with some balance or an SMS percent. The quality component is that the device will work in any a part of this global supplied that there is a cellular community available at that location.
The task is enclosed in a virtual digital camera pouch as a result may be tied across the waist at the side of a belt, can be saved for your infant's bagpack or pocket. since the venture has GPS, you can't most effective use it as a baby tracker but also as automobile monitoring or bagpack anti-theft device.
STEP 1: HOW IT WORKS

The method is quite simple. As you can already understand, linkit one as in-constructed GPS and GSM capabilities. So while you send a message to linkit one thru your smartphone, it's miles obtained by using the SIM card gift on linkit one and transferred to the board thereafter.
The board then strategies the sign, receives GPS information by without delay connecting to a sattelite and then sends this statistics to the no. that is referred to in it's code. The information while entered on Google Maps gives you the exact GPS region of the tool. as the device can be along with your child, it will tell you the place of your infant so that you can easily attain that vicinity.
It shall be referred to that you'll handiest get the records till the device is on. Unavailability of electricity supply or the battery running low will not come up with the GPS statistics.

you will require the components and tools referred to under to make this assignment. simply, you just need a SIM card and an enclosure in case you already have a Linkit one or were given it from the latest giveaway right here at instructables.

  • 1x 3.7v lithium battery
  • 1x GSM antenna
  • 1x GPS antenna

step one is to connect both the antennas of their respective sockets. This need to be pretty clean. for your linkit one package deal, search for a yellow colored square shaped antenna (GPS) and a rectangular black one (GSM/GPRS) which is relatively larger than the other black one.
look for the antenna sockets behind your forums. Insert and join your antenna to their respective sockets which are labelled on the board.
STEP 4:CONNECT THE BATTERY AND INSERT THE SIM

And that's it! You're all done with the building part of this project. The last step is to tie everything up using some tape. You can also use zip ties.
Try to keep everything in place and make the size as small as possible by arranging the battery and the antennas. Use some tape to keep everything in place. You may need to apply some tape below the board as well to avoid any unnecessary connections with the metal base.
STEP 6: ADD A COVER OR AN ENCLOSURE

here comes the most essential part of this assignment. here, you have to decide as to the way to make the assembled venture a wearable. You immediately hold the board for your infant's pocket with all open connections with the threat of breaking them so that you should have a pleasing enclosure for it.

In my case, I used a camera pouch, that is soft consequently might now not aggravate your toddler. The pouch can be held collectively with a belt, can be hung as a locket or can even be stored for your child's bagpack or pocket. but, this changed into just a basic concept. you could use some thing you need which relies upon on how nicely you may believe.
STEP 7: UPLOAD THE CODE

Upload the code given in the ino file below to your linkit one. If you are uploading the code for the first time to your linkit one, you can follow my Linkit ONE Getting Started Guide to help you set up your board and to get started with it. Before uploading, make sure that switches 1, 2 and 3 should be in UART, USB and SPI positions respectively.
Note: In the line "LSMS.beginSMS("0123456789");", in "void setup()", change "0123456789" to the mobile no. you want the message to be sent.
STEP 8: YOU ARE DONE

This is it!. All you have to do now is, switch it on, make your child wear it in whatever way you like and that's it! Now your child will be always safe. For getting the GPS location, send an SMS through your phone with any sort of text. You will receive an SMS on to the phone no. that you mentioned in the code. Copy the latitude, longitude and other details on Google Maps and you will get the exact location of your child!
